Finally, I made my Nina plush doll. This took me about 3 to 4 days to make. I know that she's not perfect (I have used cheap materials), but I have the basics down to making dolls. Here's what I used and how I put her together:
Materials:
Fabric Felt (cheapest material & good for beginners)
Lots of Thread (hand and Machine Sewing)
Craft Fur
PrismaColor Markers (For Nina's face)
I have created my own patterns, but it did take me a few tries to get it right. The objective was to make the doll 3 dimensional. Here are the total pieces for each body part:
-Head (3 pieces)
-Body (3 pieces)
-Arms (4 pieces)
-Legs (4 pieces)
-Soles (2 pieces) To sew to bottom of feet
With the sewing machine (if you have one), sew the straight pieces together (head, legs, etc.) Also, keep in mind that felt is very hard to turn inside out so sew one side, flip it inside out and continue on. Before you flip the legs inside out, make sure you sew the soles to the bottom. Pins are not really necessary since felt can stick together, but be sure to hold it in place when sewing on the soles. When sewing the arms, you can use the sewing machine, but hand sewing may be better. Just be sure to flip it inside out when you're halfway.
Once the body parts are sewn together and stuffed, start hand sewing the parts to the body. You can use the sewing machine, but if you want the doll to look 3 dimensional, hand sewing is the best thing. Also, don't rush your hand sewing because it can lead to problems (the thread can get tangled if you sew too fast).
Now, creating the doll clothes was a challenge for me. It is best to take the patterns again and create the clothes with them (just make it bigger/longer). DO NOT use masking tape. I tried that and I ended up putting holes in my plush doll. I should have known that masking tape was too sticky for felt fabric (my bad). Since I have used felt for the clothes, I had to sew them onto the doll (I'm sure you can tell from my handy work). There's no way I could slip the outfit onto the doll.
As for the face, I have used PrismaColor Markers. I think iron on sheets would be the best thing since it can make your doll look more professional. I could have used paint, but it would have taken a long time to dry.
Well, that's it for now. I will soon provide my patterns on dA if anyone is interested in making plush dolls the way I do. Bye!
