Chinese citizens react to Vance's ‘peasants’ remarks

China’s foreign ministry has strongly criticised US Vice-President J.D. Vance’s comments, calling the Chinese ‘peasants’. In an interview with US television channel Fox News, Vance was asked about Washington’s sweeping tariffs on most trading partners, including an additional 34 per cent on Chinese imports. Defending the levies, Vance said, “We borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy the things those Chinese peasants manufacture.”
