And to cap things off on the final night-time twilight journey, let's go out in fact with a scream, with the signature sound of a Volvo Ailsa, with a very early example in the form of 4527.
New in 1974 to West Midlands PTE as 4527. TOE527N formed a small order of 3 Ailsa prototypes. With 4527 in fact being the second Ailsa ever built, thus the oldest survivor. In service it ran from Sutton Coldfield and Acocks Green garages, unlike the later JOV-P batch was not sent to London. If anyone can fill in the blanks from when it was withdrawn to when it entered into preservation in 2006 would be greatly appreciated.
Our journey sees us on the return journey from the "Happy Hour" runaround as we head from Alcester Lane Ends back to Wythall Transport Museum via Maypole Island.
TOE527N is powered by a front-mounted Volvo TD70H engine coupled to a 5-speed SCG semi-automatic gearbox, with the unmistakable sound whine of the alternator belt loud and clear. I hope you enjoy this beast of a vehicle driven at speed.
