📖 Description
In September 2025, Nepal witnessed one of its most powerful youth-led movements — the Gen Z Protests. What began as outrage against the sudden ban on 26 major social media platforms quickly turned into a nationwide call for justice against corruption, nepotism, unemployment, and inequality.
Thousands of young Nepalis, mostly students, took to the streets of Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal, and other cities, demanding change. Their slogans — “Shut down corruption, not social media” — became the voice of a generation tired of political failures.
The government’s heavy-handed response — curfews, military deployment, tear gas, rubber bullets, and even live fire — led to tragic deaths of nearly 20 young protesters and hundreds of injuries. Despite this, the movement grew stronger, fueled by anger over leaders living lavish lives while ordinary citizens struggled.
The pressure was unstoppable. Within days, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned, and the social media ban was lifted — marking a historic win for Nepal’s youth.
This protest wasn’t just about social media. It was about freedom, dignity, jobs, and the fight against corruption. Nepal’s Gen Z showed the world that when young voices unite, they can shake even the strongest governments.
