Aquinas College professor of fine arts Fay Renardson shows the beauty and importance of this monumental work of civic art.
In the 14th century, artist Ambrogio Lorenzetti, an Italian painter of the Sienese School, painted monumental allegories of good and bad government on the walls of the Sala dei Nove, the room in Siena's Palazzo Pubblico where the chief magistrates—the Nine—held their meetings. The lecture will examine these powerful images that together represent the contrast between good and bad government.
Fay Wirth Renardson graduated from Vanderbilt University and is an adjunct professor of Fine Arts at Aquinas College. She was the first recipient of the Adjunct Teacher of the Year Award in 2004. She has written for the Vanderbilt News Service and was a writer and editor for the Alumni Publications for the Divinity School and the College of Arts and Sciences. Ms. Renardson currently serves as an assistant curator at the Visual Resources Center in Vanderbilt's Department of History of Art.
