In this pasuram, Āḻvār expresses his deep longing to join the nityasūris (the eternal servants of the Lord), who are always immersed in divine service and bliss. The nityasūris are so intimately connected with the Lord that they are considered His very life-breath. there is no existence of the Lord without them. Āḻvār, yearning to experience that same eternal service, feels great sorrow when it remains unfulfilled.

In this discourse HH Chinnajeeyar Swamiji explains that the Lord is the supreme master of everything, both the sentient (chetana) and the non-sentient (achetana). If a hand causes pain, we don’t appeal to the hand itself, we appeal to the person who possesses it. in the same way, when the earth, water, air, or sky seem unfavorable to us, we should not pray to them individually, but to the Lord who created and governs them.

The Lord has declared that the five elements, earth, water, fire, air, and sky are His aparā prakṛti (lower nature). Therefore, all these belong to Him. Similarly, the nityasūris are also parts of the Lord. Hence, instead of praying to them, we must pray directly to the Lord Himself. Āḻvār, unable to join the nityasūris in divine service, prays directly to Lord Narasimha, the Supreme Being who protects devotees and removes their sorrow.
