This Is Life In Small Town Minnesota

What the heck is happening in Minnesota small towns and why should you care?

Of course, it’s safe here in the Minnesota sticks. The last time they had a murder here in Luverne was in the early 2000s. Someone was killed at the state park. People in town still remember the name of the victim and the guy that did it.

Rural Minnesota is a special type of place. If you have an out-of-state plate, some corn-hole sheriff will tail ya until you're a half mile or so out of town.

For fun, it’s church, potlucks, hunting, Hockey. More church, more potlucks, MORE hunting. And lots more hockey.

They also a splash park and two museums here. There’s skydiving and rock climbing not too far away. They even have fast internet here. It’s not AS boring as you might think.

You can bet everyone knows everyone here. Minnesotans. They’re polite and certainly friendly, but firm in being at arm's length unless they get to know you well.

Their accent here makes them particularly intriguing. If you’ve ever seen Fargo, you’d know what I’m talking about. They actually based the movie Fargo ON Luverne Minnesota. But it was filmed in Canada.

Unlike many other small communities in Minnesota, little Luverne is actually thriving. The population has been flirting with 5,000 people for a while now. And they’re all very aware of that.

The excitement around town is all kinda new - the city had been doing poorly for a while. People were leaving. There was nothing new and interesting happening. Businesses were closing, and the place looked kinda shabby. It was just stagnant.

So, Luverne higher ups hired a consultant from the Twin Cities, and they came in and they formed a non profit where they raised money to improve the place.

Today, there’s some new stuff sprouting up. Businesses are coming back. A big new national guard base is opening up nearby. There’s a bike trail that goes all over town now. They even put in a new pool and a fitness center.
