Why is Superman not allowed to kiss Lois Lane in India, but sleazy comedies like "Housefull 5' or 'Masti' filled with rape jokes and cuss words get a free pass? This is a question with just one possible answer: the Central Board of Film Certification.
Recently, CBFC demanded 127 cuts in Punjab ’95, and CBFC has been doing this for years now, such as banning Lipstick Under My Burkha for being “lady-oriented,” or insisting that the word “intercourse” be scrubbed from a trailer. The CBFC has been acting less as a certification board and more as a cultural gatekeeper. The hypocrisy is staggering: films filled with misogyny, violence, or crude humour are freely cleared, while anything remotely bold, political, or feminist faces the knife.
So why does India’s film certification body act like a censor board? Why does it get to dictate what 1.4 billion Indians can watch? That is what we shall discuss in the video.
