Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong, or Lapsang Souchong is the world's first black tea dated in the 16th century. This historical tea is as mysterious as its international fame. Tong Mu Village, instead of Tong Mu Guan, is the birth place of this tea and still is the core production area for both traditional smoked Lapsang tea and unsmoked Lapsang tea. There are many misunderstanding or fake stories to be told about this tea or Tong Mu Village since the area is restricted to any Chinese who doesn't live in there or foreigners. We were lucky to be able to go in with our Lapsang tea's producer Bei Bei Zhang and get first hand traditional smoked Laspang tea's production footage. Our goal here is to unravel some of the mysteries about this tea, such as how an authentic smoked Lapsang black tea is produced, why it's becoming more and more scarce in China, what are some of the chain effect of cultural loss this tea brings because of its gradual disappearance within China, and the challenges this tea is facing and will continue facing in the future. Hope you will enjoy the video and thank you for your support!
Please excuse some of the shaky footage since the last part of the road into Ma Su, Tong Mu Village is basically "no road", or say just bumpy dirt road.
