Today WE CONTINUE our series on the Hippopotamus Defense by covering a game from Michael Aizenberg, a subscriber of this channel and a strong expert in the Hippo. He has been playing the Hippopotamus chess opening in tournaments exclusively, while earning strong results. The Hippo is an opening that is close to my heart, as I earned the National Master (NM) title by playing nothing but it exclusively (both colors)!

Whether you are new to this channel or not, I do want to let you know how fun the Hippo can be in both fast AND slow time controls. This system helps you bypass all that annoying chess opening theory, and get into the middlegame in one piece. From there, you can focus on Hippopotamus Defense strategies and techniques that will seperate yourself from your opponents the more experience you get.

The Hippopotamus Defense is strong in chess theory, chess strategy, chess moves, chess ideas, and chess principles. You can start out with the Modern Defense, Pirc Defense, French Defense, Owen's Defense, or St. George Defense (technically). However, all roads lead to the same goal, a full, thick-skinned Hippo Defense. We are looking to get our bishops fianchettoed, knights tucked, with 4-6 pawns on 6th rank.
