I rode the G2G trail from Elmira Ontario to Benmiller
The trail is very beautiful

The Goderich‑to‑Guelph (G2G) Rail Trail is a 132 km (about 82 mi) multi‑use greenway that stretches from the shores of Lake Huron at Goderich to downtown Guelph in southwestern Ontario
.
What it is
Built on the old Guelph & Goderich Railway line (completed 1907, decommissioned 1988) and officially opened in 2015
.
Compacted stone‑dust surface, low‑grade, so it’s easy on foot, bike, wheelchair, and in winter you can snowshoe or ski
.
Part of the Trans Canada Trail network, connecting 13 towns and villages along the way
.
Highlights along the route
Covered bridges: West Montrose Covered Bridge (the only remaining one in Ontario) and the Menesetung Bridge in Goderich
.
Scenic variety: rolling farmland, woodlands, wetlands, streams and the Lake Huron shoreline
.
Cultural stops: local Mennonite bakeries, historic sites, and community festivals
.
Current status
Most of the trail is off‑road, but a 2.7 km on‑road gap in Guelph is being addressed through the “Bridge the Gap” campaign, with community‑led planning and city support
.
The trail is maintained by volunteers through G2G Rail Trail Inc., a registered charity that relies on donations and memberships to keep the path accessible
.
Getting there & getting involved
Access points are at the North Harbour Road entrance in Goderich and at every road crossing the former CPR line
.
You can explore an interactive map on the G2G website, join a volunteer crew, or support the trail with a donation
.
In short, the G2G trail offers a flat, scenic, and community‑rich route for walkers, cyclists, families, and winter enthusiasts—linking Lake Huron to Guelph while preserving a piece of Ontario’s railway heritage.
