ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on party delegates at the National General Council in Boksburg to renew the organisation or it will perish. He says the party's priority is to remove criminals from its ranks and government, calling it a crucial part of its renewal strategy.
In a detailed political overview report, Ramaphosa also reflected on the ANC's poor electoral performance in the 2024 general elections.
The frosty relationship between the ANC and the SACP came to the fore earlier today when the SACP was booed while trying to address the NGC. The SACP has said it will contest next year's local government elections on its own.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has visited the Atteridgeville Police Station and the hostel in Saulsville where 12 people were gunned down at the weekend.
He is also expected to visit the family of Witness D, Marius van der Merwe - who was shot in full view of his family on Friday night. Van der Merwe earlier testified at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
