Campo Maior é uma vila do distrito de Portalegre.
Foi uma povoação Romana, dominada por mouros durante meio milénio e reconquistada por cavaleiros cristãos da família Pérez de Badajoz em 1219.
O seu castelo que se ergue a leste da vila foi reedificado por D. Dinis em 1310, e foi no século XVII e XVIII que se levantaram fortificações tornando Campo Maior numa importante praça forte de Portugal.
Campo Maior is a village in the district of Portalegre.
It was a Roman settlement, dominated by Moors for half a millennium and reconquered by Christian knights from the Pérez de Badajoz family in 1219.
Its castle, which stands east of the town, was rebuilt by D. Dinis in 1310, and it was in the 17th and 18th centuries that fortifications were built, making Campo Maior an important stronghold in Portugal.
