Opisthopsis ants are also called strobe ants because of the jittery movements they seem to make while moving. These seem to be due to small jumps they make as they move (visible at the end of the video, where the speed has been slown down by 50%). These ants are common in the northern parts of Australia. Here a colony of Opisthopsis haddoni is seen clearing the nest entrance, digging their nest, carrying brood and bringing back food to the colony.
