Robert Schumann put Adelbert von Chamisso's cycle of poems "Frauenliebe und -Leben" to music in 1840, and it remains a notable song cycle for the female voice to this day. This is the second piece in the set, 'Er, der Herrlichste von allen' ("He, the noblest of all") and is the piano accompaniment only.
