The Murchison Performing Arts Center, Denton,Texas, October 3, 2024.
The composition is a variation of a motif from the ancient Chinese guqin music "High Mountains and Running Water" by Yu Boya (387-299 B.C.). It transfers some of the techniques and sounds of guqin to saxphone.
While writing this piece, I was thinking about the organic relationship between ancient and modern times, between sound and emotion, between saxphone and wind ensemble, and between the creativity of the composer and the perception of the listener.
