The pepper plants sprayed produce jalapenos that are absolutely delicious and slightly above the medium-spicy scale. They are relatively easy to grow with the right fertilizer, good soil, and appropriate watering techniques, which are check the soil for moisture every other day; if it is over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, check daily. Do not let the soil dry out. The plants in this video get about 1 gallon of water each time they are watered.
The malathion sprayed in this video was mixed at one, “heaping,” a bit more than tablespoon per gallon. I should mention that it is not a “forever” chemical. In most cases, it can be sprayed up to a day before harvest. In the case of my peppers, I harvested before I sprayed.
I did spray all of the pepper plants. I would like to emphasize that if you do not control aphids and/or scales, they will usually destroy or at least cripple your plants. Always read the manufacturer’s directions on the label before using. And do not forget to use safe practices such as gloves and respirators rated for chemicals when spraying, whether the chemicals are organic or inorganic pesticides.
Finally, the heavy spraying of malathion was successful. The aphids and scales have been mitigated (for now); as we know, non-beneficial insects will always be looking for a place to dine, and that those beneficial insects that eat them are not always prolific enough to take care of the problem.
