► My “wing loading” (total flight weight) for the Flare Line 13 is 95 kg in summer.
This means the total weight that is in the air: body weight with clothes and shoes, harness, canopy weight, accessories etc. – simply everything!
This gives me a “wing load” according to the Flare table of 7.3 – so I am in the range 7 to 8.
Flare writes on its website: “Experience in extreme speedflying is highly recommended (capability of flying wings 9m²)!

In winter, however – i.e. with skis, ski boots (of course heavier than hiking boots) and ski accessories, my “wing loading” (total flight weight) is 105 kg.
This gives me a “wing load” according to the Flare table of 8.1 – so I am in the range greater than 8.

Hello, my name is Steffen Hirzel and my passions are very diverse!

Starting with Mountaineering & Climbing, I now fly with the „chute“, if the conditions allow it, from the mountain back down into the valley. However, not only this so-called „Hike & Fly“ or „Climb & Fly“, but also the sole exercise gives me a lot of joy. I am enthusiastic about the so-called „Speedriding“, „Speedflying“ und „Parakiting“!

But I also like to be out and about on my own doorstep, where the mountains are more like small hills: whether Bouldering, Sport Climbing; or Cross-Country Flying with a high-performance glider is even possible in some areas where I live - and if there's no or too little wind to „screw up“ in the thermals, a quiet „gliding“ is a welcome opportunity for „training“.
