Have you ever received a formal letter letting you know that a burglary had been scheduled for your house in two weeks? Of course not! In the same way, we do not know the date for Christ’s second coming. Just as a pregnant woman does not know with certainty the exact day, she will give birth, we can be confident that Christ will return on a day we do not know. Therefore, we are commanded to stay awake and be sober. What does it mean to keep awake and to be sober? It is a call to be sober-minded. We are to live in view of the fact that Christ will return. We should live lives of moral purity, seeking to follow the Lord’s commands. Further, we should seek to warn others of Jesus's return. In both our actions and our words, we should clearly communicate to people the reality and seriousness of Christ’s second coming. We should not expect life to be easy while we wait for His return. Life in this dark world may be difficult, but we can endure because we know that the morning has already dawned with the first coming of Jesus Christ, and His second coming is certain. As the quarter concludes, let us try to think, feel, and act sober-mindedly and in a way that is fitting for children of the light. Jesus is coming again!
