Originally developed as an anti-aircraft defense weapon system in the 1950s, the M42 Duster found its role in the dense jungles of Vietnam.

Its awesome firepower proved effective in suppressing enemy ground fire on convoy duty and in fixed defensive positions.

ACF Industries of Berwick built M42 Dusters in the 1950s.

The gun turret could rotate 360-degrees and elevate to 85-degrees when deployed against aircraft.
However, it was its ability to depress the guns as low as minus 5-degrees that made it invaluable in jungle warfare.

The M42 remained in service with National Guard units until 1988 when they were replaced by improved Air Defense Artillery (ADA) systems such as the Stinger and Patriot missile systems.
