L’Ospite Ingombrante

Perché questo cortometraggio?
Quante volte ti hanno detto: “come stai bene, sei dimagrita?” Oppure hai sentito: “peccato sia grassa” o “sembra anoressica”? Per alcuni queste frasi sono una pugnalata. 1 italiana su 20 soffre di un disturbo del comportamento alimentare e, sicuramente, ce n’è una tra le nostre amiche. Ma non é un problema solo “rosa” perché la percentuale dei maschi che stanno male é in forte crescita. Il cibo è un sintomo, ma non la causa. I DCA provengono da un vuoto interiore che si cerca di colmare. Spero che questo cortometraggio faccia sentire chi soffre di DCA meno solo/a e che possa essere un’occasione per parlare della propria esperienza. È solo aprendo il proprio cuore e chiedendo aiuto che ne si può uscire. Vorrei anche che riflettessimo prima di fare commenti sul corpo e ci abituassimo a valutare una persona per le sue qualità e non per il suo aspetto.

What prompted me to create this short movie?
The amount of times I heard: “You look amazing! Have you lost weight?”. Or: “It’s such a shame she’s fat.” Or again: “She looks anorexic”. These comments feel like stabs to many. 1 out of 20 Italian girls suffers from an eating disorder: this means it’s extremely likely one of our friends is currently experiencing this. However, it’s not just a ‘girl’s issue’: the percentage of men suffering from ED is constantly growing. Food is the symptom, not the cause. I hope that this short movie will let people battling with ED know that they’re not alone. I hope it will convince them to speak up, because talking about the problem is the first step towards healing.
I also hope that we will stop commenting other people’s bodies and start valuing people based on their qualities, and not on their physical appearance.
