Achieving your higher self with Meditation

The first question asked in this discourse was - Is it possible to channelize your suppressed or negative energy/emotions into something more creative and positive. Om Swami says, there are two ways to do this. One is to use your energy towards a creative cause that will make one feel more positive and fulfilled. The second is to use meditation and chanting to channelize this energy. Meditation teaches one to harness this energy and direct it in a fruitful way - when done right it helps one realize and achieve their higher self. When one keeps drawing energy from their base mind, it is like being on a service line, it may or may not work. But when one connects themselves to a grid they have plenty of energy and can harness that energy at any time. Meditation helps form that connection with the grid and helps in being aware of one's higher self.
The second question in this discourse was - Is concentrating on silence a state of thoughtless awareness which you should hold for a longer duration. Om Swami says, concentration is an act. When one attains a state of concentration, after a while - it transforms into meditation. The thoughtless state is the latter stage of meditation. If one holds on to their concentration just fine, the thoughtless state will emerge. The rewards of building a one-pointed concentration are beyond one's imagination. But this requires effort and mastery, like any other skill.
