In this episode, we shine a light on Benjamin Logan, a key figure in Kentucky’s early frontier history. Long overshadowed by other well-known names like Boone and Harrod, Logan played a major role in shaping the Commonwealth during its formative years.
Logan moved to Kentucky in the early 1770s and was responsible for establishing Logan’s Fort, near present-day Stanford. This was the third settlement created by colonial pioneers in Kentucky, following Harrodsburg and Boonesborough. The fort became a vital stronghold in defending settlers against Native American raids and served as a critical launching point for further expansion.
In the episode, we explore Logan’s early life, his military service, and the daring trek that brought him through the Cumberland Gap into what was then still a dangerous and untamed land. We also look at how Logan helped organize local militia efforts and eventually became a respected statesman and leader in early Kentucky politics.
Don’t miss this dive into the life of one of Kentucky’s foundational frontiersmen!
