Indigo flow at Santos!Thanks to Sensus Rad Trails for building a downhill mountain bike trail in Florida! Santos Mountain Bike trails have been the hub of florida mountain biking since the 2000’s. This new downhill flow run is going to cement this trail system as a kingpin.

Each year the Fat tire festival brings thousands of riders from all over the country. I have a feeling this trail is going to gain some serious traction during the 2020 festival.

If you are new to the Santos trail system finding this trail might be confusing since there are several different parking zones. The Main lot is situated off of SE 80th street but this is not where you will find this trail or the more progressive trails at Santos. Although it does serve as a good warmup to ride the approximate 1.5 miles over to the Vortex trailhead. From there you take the dirt access road through and over a gate which will spit you out at the hub of the vortex trail system. You’ll be able to see the first section of the flow trail from this point.

Lets talk about this trail. The builders have utilized every inch of Florida Elevation to finely craft a flow trail that when is all said and done will offer a surprising amount of downhilll flow experience. It starts atop of a stone shelf, remains of a limerick quarry. Paired with some speedy berms and a wood roll in. You’re already feeling an intense sense of elevation and adrenaline that few trails in Florida can provide. Mind you this is only the first section and has least amount of elevation drop compared to the remaining trail in the works.
Once you wind through this equalizer of flow trail you have the option to loop around and enjoy this beautifully brief section again or pedal a short gap in the trail to continue on to the more advanced section that circles around and down to the lowest elevation point in the trail system.

This map gives an idea of where the trail is in relation to what we know about the vortex system.

From the second part of the trail, there looks to be another wood roll in that could potentially act as a step up step down followed by some more flow jumps and then a wall ride reminiscent of those on Whislter’s Crank it Up. Not quite an round wall but flat, the kind that offers several different approaches.

The wall ride sits on the turning point of the trail and leads into the most full throttle section. Features including a shark fin and impressive looking snake berms are located on the steepest part of the descent and will be bringing tears of speed to our eyes. It’s important to know that this trail starts on one of the highest points in the vortex and ends at the lowest point. Offering as much elevation as possible.

This is as much of a speculative preview that I can rightfully and comfortably share with you but in the coming weeks the trail will be open and riding it will be the only real way to know what to expect.
