Learn how to play the famous Mexican folksong "La Llorona." This song was popularized by Andres Henestrosa in 1941, but -- in this video -- it is performed by Mexican-American singer Ángela Aguilar.
This song does not use explicit language, but there are themes of sadness throughout. This song also includes the Spanish word "virgen." Some older students (especially Spanish-speaking students) may know the true meaning of this word, but if students ask me what it means, I tell them it means "innocent" (for the sake of keeping things school-appropriate).
Ángela Aguilar's original recording of this song is nearly six minutes long, so I have cut some of the music out for the sake of the attention spans of young musicians. Hopefully, 3 minutes and 55 seconds will work better for your students, as it does for mine!
This song is a GREAT resource to practice the G minor chord on the ukulele!
