Switchers Compilation Part 1 GE, EMD, Whitcomb and Alco!

Photographed over 2022 and 2021, this collection of switchers show the impact these smaller diesels continue to make. While many were the first built diesel electric locomotives, many still are used for industrial switching, for museums, and for class one railroads.

-Interlake Steel #11, a 95-ton GE engine built in 1952. This engine leads a museum train over English Lake. Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum.

-Respondek Railroad #1296, located in Granite City, Illinois. This engine is used at the City Port to switch carloads in the old army depot. This MP15DC was originally built for Southern Pacific as #2698.

-The Prairie Line #1001, an EMD MP15 is one of several units assigned to switch Anheuser Bush Brewery in St. Louis, Missouri.

-US Air Force #4040, now owned and operated by the Michigan Transit Museum, this Whitcomb RS-4-TC was built in 1954 and spent its career at the Selfridge Air Base before retiring to the museum.

-Ontario Midland #3, operating out of Sodus, New York, the Ontario Midland owns several Alco locomotives that switch various freight industries. Here, the S4, which was built in 1953 heads for the engine house for the evening.

-Genesee and Wyoming Railroad. While information on these two locomotives are minimal, #1402 was built by Brookville as a GS1400. 1001 an SW1001, built in 1973. Both are pushing hoppers at the salt mine in Mt. Morris, New York.

-Erie #310 is an Alco S-1 built in 1947. This is also part of the collection at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson, Indiana.

-US Steel #1244, an EMD SW1200, located at the Granite City Foundries, in Illinois. This switcher along with several others make up the roster that continues to move all traffic in and out of the steel plant.

-SMS Rail #308, a Baldwin S12, was built in 1953 for the Milwaukee Road. Now, it is with a sister Baldwin on an industrial spur located in Morrisville, Pennsylvania,

-Adrian and Blissfield #836, an SW900 built in 1953. This engine is one of two switchers assigned to the Detroit Connecting Railroad, on the east side of Detroit, Michigan.

-Strasburg Railroad #8618, one of the rare diesel locomotives on the roster, this EMD SW8 is used primarily for freight moves for the tourist railroad. The SW8 was built in 1953.
