One of the best companies offering index funds is Vanguard. They lead the industry in the lowest-cost investment options and continue to get cheaper as time goes on.

In this video, I break down everything you need to know about index fund investing for beginners and even experienced investors.

Index funds are the simplest way to invest your money. All of the stocks held within them are based on a specific index so the decisions of what to invest your money into are already taken care of for you.

Index funds are fairly safe. Investing in individual stocks by themselves is very risky since you're putting all of your eggs in one basket. But if you invest in an index fund then you're putting your money into a large group of stocks that are pre-determined based on a particular index and goal. This gives you a chance to spread your risk among hundreds or even thousands of different companies.

Based on history and many financial studies, index funds turn out to be more profitable than actively managed funds. Over a longer period of time, we've found that it's very difficult for a fund manager (handling a mutual fund) to successfully pick investments that will beat a standard S&P 500 index.
