What is a frozen suit in contract bridge?

A frozen suit in contract bridge is a suit that neither declarer nor the defenders can safely lead without benefiting the other side — whoever leads the suit first will lose an extra trick or otherwise help their opponents. This situation arises when both sides hold honors or controls in the suit, so that leading from one side allows the other side to take a trick they otherwise wouldn't get.
