Drag race: 600-hp Ariel Atom vs. Lamborghini Aventador

Can a 700-hp Lamborghini Aventador beat a lightweight Ariel Atom that was tuned to 600-hp in a drag race? I raced one this weekend at Jumbolair airport to find out. It's one of Lamborghini's fastest versus one of Ariel Atom's fastest.

The Ariel Atom and Aventador both have sub-3 second 0-60 mph times. Although the Aventador has 100 more horsepower, the Ariel Atom is less than half the weight of the Aventador.

Race conditions: The floor was a little bit damp because it had been raining earlier that morning. So there was a lot of wheel spin in the beginning for almost every car that raced. But nonetheless, I launched the Aventador using Thrust Mode and let the computers optimize the race. It consistently achieved about 155 mph at the 1/2 mile mark, so that was probably the best the car could do under those conditions. Unseen in the video was a McLaren 650 S that hit 157 mph at the 1/2 mile mark, a Lamborghini Huracan Performante that beat the Aventador, and several modded cars that hit over 195 mph at the 1/2 mile mark.

One of my GoPro cameras broke in the making of this video when the car mount came off and crashed to the ground at 160 mph. The SD card was never found unfortunately.
