【東京初空襲の地】東京都荒川区東尾久

東京都荒川区東尾久の第二次世界大戦中の初空襲の地周辺を探索してみました。
1942年（昭和17年）4月18日空母ホーネットから発艦した双発爆撃機B-25の爆撃を受けました。（通称ドゥーリトル空襲）
日本側の損害は軽微でしたが真珠湾攻撃で始まったアメリカとの戦争開始以来破竹の進撃を続け、絶対空襲はないと油断していた日本軍への精神的ダメージはかなり大きいものでした。
この空襲が後の戦いの帰趨を左右することになるミッドウェー海戦につながっていきます。
初弾が落ちたのは、荒川区東尾久で東尾久8丁目23番地には、「東京初空襲の地碑」もあります。（尾久橋・日暮里舎人ライナーの
この時、少年だった作家の吉村昭氏が低空をかすめていくBー25を目撃しているそうです。
他にもいくつか歴史的な場所もたずねました

・あらかわ遊園　荒川区西尾久６丁目
大正11年（1922）煉瓦工場跡地に建てられた都内でも最古級の民間遊園地
　第二次世界大戦中は高射砲陣地となっていました
・碩運寺（せきうんじ）　荒川区西尾久2丁目
曹洞宗。大正2年（1913）、飛鳥山と三ノ輪の間を結ぶ王子電車（後の都電荒川線）が開通し、翌3年（1914）ここに「寺の湯（のちの不老閣）」が開業。住職が井戸を掘っていた所ラジウムを含む鉱泉が出ました。戦前は荒川遊園・路面電車の存在と相まって大変繁盛したようです。
2・26事件の起こった1936年（昭和11年）に起こった有名な「阿部貞」事件もここ尾久温泉で起こったそうです。
・三ノ輪橋駅（荒川区千住1丁目）
都電荒川線（東京さくらトラム）の終着駅。現在の駅は昭和30年頃をイメージしたレトロ調のデザインに改修されています。昭和レトロなアーケード商店街が残ります。

余談ですがあまり知られてないかもですが都電荒川線（東京さくらトラム）はラッピング電車も多いですね

【The site of Tokyo's first air raid Higashiogu, Arakawa-ku, Tokyo】
The area around the site of the first air raid during World War II in Higashiogu, Arakawa-ku, Tokyo, was explored.
On 18 April 1942, the area was bombed by twin-engined B-25 bombers launched from the aircraft carrier Hornet. (commonly known as the Doolittle Raid).
The damage to the Japanese side was slight, but the psychological damage to the Japanese forces, who had been on a breakneck march since the start of the war with the USA, which began with the attack on Pearl Harbour, and had been caught off guard by the belief that there would never be an air raid, was quite significant.
This air raid led to the Battle of Midway, which would later determine the outcome of the battle.
The first bombs fell in Higashiogu, Arakawa Ward, and at 8-23 Higashiogu there is a monument to the site of the first air raid on Tokyo. (Oku Bridge, Nippori-Toneri Liner).
The writer Akira Yoshimura, who was a boy at the time, witnessed a B-25 grazing low overhead.
We also visited several other historical sites.

Arakawa Amusement Park, 6 Nishi-Oku, Arakawa-ku.
One of the oldest private amusement parks in Tokyo, built in 1922 on the site of a former brick factory.
　During World War II, it was used as an anti-aircraft gun emplacement.
Sekiunji Temple 2, Nishiohisa, Arakawa-ku, Tokyo.
Soto sect. In 1913, the Oji Train (later the Toden Arakawa Line) linking Asukayama and Minowa was opened, and in 1914, the following year, the ‘Temple no Yu (later Furokaku)’ opened here. The priest dug a well, which produced mineral spring water containing radium. Before the war, it was very prosperous in combination with the presence of the Arakawa Amusement Park and tramway.
The famous ‘Abe Sada’ incident that occurred in 1936, the year of the 2/26 Incident, is said to have taken place here at the Oku Onsen.
Minowabashi Station (Senju 1-chome, Arakawa-ku)
The terminal station of the Toden Arakawa Line (Tokyo Sakura Tram). The current station has been renovated to a retro design inspired by the 1950s. A Showa-era retro arcade shopping street remains.

As an aside, it may not be well known, but the Toden Arakawa Line (Tokyo Sakura Tram) has many wrapped trains.
