Spring crappie fishing is a load of fun. During the spring runs, you can put together nice stringers of crappie for the table, or just have fun catching a lot of fish. But you have to find them first. Mike and Dana have fished these spring runs for years in Maryland, but now that they are in Tennessee, they're behind the curve and need to find them on unfamiliar waters. These spawning runs are also time sensitive, with the fish moving up onto the banks and shallow waters where you can bank fish for them for a short period of time.So when they feel the time is right, they head out to several different destinations in search of crappie, evaluating what they know about these fish and their spawning habits to find locations they feel will be productive.
Many fish are caught along the way, bass, drum, catfish, bluegill, and yes, they did land some crappie too. Mike even landed a large crappie with a lamprey eel attached! But not in the numbers they had hoped for. Were they too late for the spawn? Too early? Not in the right spot? Only time will tell. So enjoy the first video in their search to catch crappie. We will see how their efforts continue in future videos.
