The Yokosuka D4Y Suisei ( "Comet", Allied reporting name "Judy") is a two-seat carrier-based dive bomber developed by the Yokosuka Naval Air Technical Arsenal and operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. Like many other Japanese aircraft of the time, the D4Y lacked armor and self-sealing fuel tanks and it was not until the final variant, the D4Y4, that the aircraft was given bulletproof glass and armor protection for the crew and fuel tanks.
Despite its flaws the D4Y Suisei was used in various roles reconnaissance, night fighter and in Kamikaze attacks. The D4Y was also involved in one of the final kamikaze attacks on August 15th 1945, hours after the surrender of Japan, with Vice Admiral Matome Ugaki in the rear cockpit. All three aircraft were destroyed by the US Navy.
As for the kit itself by Fujimi, the kit turns out a decent model. Sadly the kit's cockpit was missing detail. And the decals have a bit of visible carrier film. Other than that its a fun quick, fuss free kit. So join me in this video were I build the Fujimi 1/72 Scale D4Y4 Suisei (Judy) with a muddy diorama.
Thanks for watching dear viewers!
