EASY TUTORIAL –Make Bullet Damages and Wounds on Gunpla (How To)

Written Instructions:
All you need for this tutorial is everything you see in front of you:
1. Drill bit
2. Hobby Knife
3. Silver or aluminum color paint
4. a paint brush with a fine tip
5. And your Gunpla piece

Before we begin, let’s go over the materials first.

One, your drill bit. A drill bit is necessary in order to create the actual bullet holes. In this tutorial, I’m using Tamiya drill bits which comes in five different sizes: 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, and 3mm. I’ll be using the 2.5 for this tutorial. Although I’m using Tamiya drill bits, any drill bit from a hobby shop will do.

Two. For your hobby knife, I would highly recommend using a hobby knife that has already been worn down and used. A clean, new knife used in this tutorial will be severely dulled.

Three: A silver or aluminum color paint is a basic color. It is important to use this color because it’ll represent the underlying metal from the bullet damage. You’ll be using this paint in conjunction with your fine-tip paint brush.

And Finally: the Gunpla piece. I’ll be using the RX79 Gundam Ground Type’s shield in this video. This piece is ideal for a tutorial because it is flat and it is a Gundam part which would most likely receive bullet damages. Before this video, I added light weathering and battle damages. You can find out how I did this in my other tutorial video which I will link in the description below.

Now let us begin!
Step #1: First create the bullet holes. In this step, you will use your drill bit to drill holes into your gunpla piece. Be careful not to put too many holes as you cannot repair them once they are set. Start with a few and then add more if you want. You should also go and google image bullet holes and damages to study bullet patterns and damages.

Step #2: Create the impact areas. In this step, you will use your hobby knife to create the impact area around the holes. As it is, the holes are perfectly round, which is not realistic. You will use your hobby knife to carve and cut out the plastic around the hole – creating an impact of different depth and length. I recommend doing this step on a flat table top to protect your fingers from accidental slip ups. You can also use the tip of the knife to create shrapnel effects once you are done.

Step #3. Paint the exposed bullet wounds. For the final step, you will use your silver or aluminum paint with your fine tip brush to go over the bullet impact areas. Try not to go outside the impact area and paint within the hole. This requires gentle application.
And that concludes this tutorial. This is an easy, short process which can add a lot of realism to your gunpla building. You don’t need a lot of materials, but this does take practice.

As a recap, you want to choose the right size drill bit to create your bullet holes. Then, you want to determine how many bullet holes you want. Remember that you cannot take away but you can always add, so start with less. And finally, use a dull knife to create the impact affects because a new knife will absolutely be destroyed in this process. As a protip, you can use the tip of the knife to create small shrapnel effects when you are done making you impact areas.
