Arif Məlikov (13 September 1933 – 9 May 2019) was a renowned Azerbaijani composer, known for blending national music traditions with 20th-century innovations. His first major work, the ballet Legend of Love, earned him international acclaim. He later composed more ballets, symphonies, and film scores. A highly respected figure in Azerbaijan, Məlikov was named a People's Artist of the USSR and received many honors throughout his career. After Azerbaijan's independence, he taught at the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire and contributed significantly to the cultural life of the country. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 85.
