Today I’m showing you how I built strong, reusable plant cages to protect our new grapevines from rabbits and other pests. 🐇🍇
These cages aren’t your average flimsy wire circles. I started with 4-foot wire, bent it into a full circle, zip-tied the ends, and trimmed the sharp edges for safety. Then I cut them down to 2 feet tall — the perfect height for keeping rabbits out.
But I didn’t stop there! I tack welded rebar stakes directly to the cages so they can be hammered into the ground and stay put — no more cages blowing over in the wind. 🌬️
This DIY project works for:
Grapevines
Blueberries
Young trees
Any plant that needs a few years of protection while growing
Materials I Used:
4' wire fencing
Zip ties
Rebar stakes
Angle grinder
Welder (optional, for extra strength)
