A new thematic dance production by Apsaras Arts premiering on 23rd and 24th January 2015 at the Victoria Theatre, Singapore. Tickets available online on www.sistic.com
“Añjasa” means “the path” in Pali the classical language of Buddhism. This dance production by Apsaras Arts is a journey through some of the celebrated Buddhist monuments of significant importance either associated with the life of the Buddha or in the propagation of his teachings throughout Asia. The theme has been conceived as a sequel to the earlier successful dance production “Nirmanika - The Beauty of Architecture” by Apsaras Arts, which enjoyed two well received seasons at the Esplanade Theatre’s on the Bay, Singapore in 2010 and 2011, and successful international tour performances to the United Kingdom (London and Liverpool in 2010 and 2011), India, Sri Lanka and Australia.
“Añjasa” celebrates the significance of selected monuments of Mahadevi Temple (Lumbini, Nepal), Buddha Gaya Maha Bodhi Temple (India), Sanchi Vihara (India), Vattadage (Pollannaruva, Sri Lanka), The Shwedagon Pagoda, (Yangoon, Myanmar (Burma)), Bayon (Angkor, Cambodia) and Borobudur (Yogjakarta, Indonesia).
Through stylised movements of pure dance and expressive elements of dance theatre, linked with poetry in English, “Añjasa” illustrates the concepts of Buddhist philosophy & history, architecture, iconography and more through beautifully choreographed dance pieces in the Indian classical style of Bharatanatyam.
