Ave Maria!
In today’s Holy Gospel, we behold Jesus weeping over Jerusalem — as He weeps over the loss of each soul. Do we realise that our souls were fashioned by God for salvation, to dwell with Him for all eternity, and to render Him all the glory He deserves?
We know well that our body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. When Christ cleansed the Temple of Jerusalem, He was prefiguring what He longs to do in our own souls. With divine zeal, He desires to drive out not merely the pagans from the Hebrew Temple, but all impurity and desecration from within us. He seeks to build a fortress of virtues around our souls, so that vice may never breach the walls. His tears are a warning: if we persist in sin, our soul risks the same fate as Jerusalem’s Temple in A.D. 70 — destruction.
He calls each of us to be a house of prayer.
