We (Americans) spent 29 incredible days living in Brașov, Romania, right in the heart of Transylvania! This video shares our full travel life experience, where we combined long-term living with exploring one of Romania’s most charming cities. Whether you’re planning to visit Brașov as a tourist or want to experience life in Transylvania, we’ll show you why this destination is perfect for both!

We’re Jonathan and Noelle, a young American couple traveling the world full-time with just two backpacks. Our mission is to live in 100 countries, and we’re doing it all on a budget of $2,800 per month (that’s $100 per day). After a month in Bucharest, we hopped on a train to Brașov, where we lived like locals for 29 days.

Brașov is the perfect mix of history, culture, and nature. While living here, we worked remotely, cooked in our Airbnb kitchen, explored grocery stores, and enjoyed everyday activities like doing laundry and walking the cobblestone streets. Even grocery shopping in Romania felt like an adventure!

Of course, we also made time to explore Brașov’s top attractions. We hiked to the iconic Brașov sign on Tâmpa Mountain, visited the Black Church, and wandered through the historic Old Town. Every corner of this city has a story to tell, from its medieval architecture to its picturesque squares.

Looking for budget-friendly food in Brașov? We found an amazing pizza spot where we got two large specialty pizzas and soda for just 62 lei (about 12.75 USD)! Eating out in Romania can be surprisingly affordable, and with sales tax included in the prices, you always know exactly what you’re paying.

Living in Brașov gave us a deeper connection to the city and a unique perspective on Transylvania’s rich culture and natural beauty. We embraced a slower travel lifestyle, balancing work and adventure, and discovered why this city is such a hidden treasure for long-term travelers.

As we left Brașov, the month felt like it flew by. At the train station, we met a fellow traveler from Türkiye, which is perfect because Turkey is our next destination!

So, is Brașov a good place to “travel live”? Absolutely! Whether you’re visiting for a few days or considering a longer stay, Brașov has something for everyone—from stunning hikes to delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere.
