Cerro Pan de Azúcar (Sugarloaf) is a rocky massif located on the eastern flank of Siete Iglesias mountain range. Its territory belongs to the San Juan Bosco Canton, where it is considered as the main icon of this place. The majestic Sugarloaf is named in the Shuar language as “Juunt-Kaya”, which means "stone or large wall". It is part of the Municipal Conservation Area "Siete Iglesias", whose biodiversity is exquisite for housing species such as the spectacled bear, Andean tapir, or endemic birds such as the Ecuadorian tyrannulet.
To reach this place, you drive a few minutes from the town of San Juan Bosco to the south, where you have access to the slopes of the hill (4x4 road), however, to reach its peak you need at least two days. During the trip you can see a variety of native flora and fauna, mainly bird watching, which is one of the biggest attractions in the area. Additionally, the landscape and its elements are of majestic characteristics, being able to admire forests, waterfalls and panoramic viewpoints that allow to see the splendor of the Amazon. This attraction is visited by hikers and adventurers who like to enjoy life in its natural state.
