China is demonstrating its diplomatic might, hosting a flurry of events that have attracted dozens of world leaders in recent days, including North Korean leader Kim John Un.
President Xi Jinping welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin at his residence, where the leaders held bilateral talks and praised their growing partnership. The talks followed a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which brought together dozens of countries alligned with China. Russia says the two countries agreed on a deal to build a second major gas pipeline to China, and visa-free travel for Russian citizens.
