RAS AL JINZ TURTLE RESERVE
Welcome to Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, a unique natural landscape, unspoiled shorelines, golden deserts, luxuriant green oases and rugged mountains. Ras Al Jinz is world renown for the nesting of the endangered green turtle (Cheloniamydas), probably the most important nesting concentration on the Indian Ocean. This is the only place where public can watch the nesting process of these amazing sea-giants. A once in a lifetime opportunity.
Ras Al Jinz is a fishing village located in the Ras Al Hadd, on the eastern shores of the Arabian Peninsula. The Ras Al Jinz beach is world renown for the nesting endangered green turtle (Chelonia mydas), probably the most important nesting concentration on the Indian Ocean. This is the only official place where the public can watch the nesting process of these amazing sea giants.
Turtle Viewing
One of the most popular eco-tourism activities in Oman is turtle viewing. Oman is home to several important nesting sites for four different species of turtle: the endangered Green Turtle, the Olive Ridley Turtle, the Loggerhead Turtle, and the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle.
Not known to many, the best time to travel and see the turtle hatching is during summer time, between May and September. Being in the Middle East and understandably so, there is always that hesitation in traveling due to the temperature and humidity. Truth is, Ras Al Hadd enjoys a comfortable weather all through out the year and during summer time averaging 25°c and 36°c.
Turtle nesting tours at Ras Al Jinz allow visitors to witness the spectacle in an intimate fashion without fear of interrupting the creatures themselves. The turtle sanctuary at Ras Al Jinz combines an interactive museum with research laboratories and a wide range of amenities for visitors to learn all about the wonders of these ancient creatures in a family-friendly environment.
Catch the nightly and/or the early morning guided turtle nesting excursions.
For in-house guests, your room rates are inclusive of breakfast, turtle viewing (dawn and evening), entry to Turtle Visitor Center (Museum), tax and service charge.
Night turtle viewing is from 9:00pm and non-inhouse guests have to be in the Reserve by 8:30pm and Dawn turtle viewing is from 5:00am and non-inhouse guests have to be in the Reserve by 4:45am. Please note that timings may change depending on the season. kindly reconfirm.
