A scenic flight above Alcoutim by the Rio Guadiana - Portugal

Oppover grenseelven Guadiana ligger denne idylliske lille byen Alcoutim. Her finner man to gamle borger. Den eldste er det bare ruiner igjen av og ble bygd av maurerne rundt det 8 og 9 århundre. Denne borgen er opphavet til et gammelt eventyr om Algarveprinsessen. Et eventyr som de fleste i Algarve har latt gå i glemmeboken. Men, kort fortalt, en maurerprinsesse blir altså holdt fanget av et monster under denne steinhaugen. Om en ung mann stiller seg opp mellom to spesifikke trær vil monsteret oppfatte dette som en ufordring og komme ut. Da kan du velge mellom å stikke av eller kjempe mot monsteret. Vinner du er prinsessen din. Har vært der flere ganger, men har tydeligvis ikke funnet de rette trærne. Dessuten er jeg nok for gammel (68). Men området er absolutt verdt et besøk. Besøk den nyere borgen som er riktig så fint vedlikeholdt og er gjort om til et flott museum. Ta en liten matbit mens du ser utover elven med alle seilbåtene.


Up the borderline river Guadiana lies this idyllic small town of Alcoutim. Here you find two old castles. The oldest is only ruins left and was built by the moors around the 8th and 9th centuries. This castle is the origin of an ancient Algarve fairytale. An adventure that most people in the Algarve have forgotten. But, in short, an moorish princess is thus held captive by a monster under this stone pile. If a young man stands up between two specific trees, the monster will perceive this as a challenge and come out. Then you can choose to run or fight the monster. If you win the princess is yours. Have been there several times but have obviously not found the right trees. Besides, I'm probably too old (68). But the area is definitely worth a visit. Visit the newer castle which is properly maintained and is transformed into a great museum. Take a snack while looking out over the river Guadiana with all the sailboats.
