This Harrison & Harrison organ, originally constructed as a mechanical tracker instrument in 1880 and subsequently rebuilt/repositioned by Vincent Organ Company with tubular-pneumatic action in 1931, is now facing a critical state of disrepair primarily due to the degradation of its pneumatic components. This is a common predicament for organs of this era and type, where the primary failure mode is the inevitable decay of leatherwork within the pneumatic mechanisms.
Tubular-pneumatic actions, while offering certain advantages in touch and reliability over electro-pneumatic systems, are inherently more vulnerable to comprehensive failure when the leatherwork reaches the end of its serviceable life. Unlike mechanical tracker actions, which have fewer organic components subject to decay, pneumatic systems require extensive maintenance at regular intervals. This organ is an example of that!
