Marlboro May Day 2024 Processional at Potash Hill

On May 4th, 2024 Marlboro Morris and Sword, Marlboro Morris M and Windham celebrated the 50th Marlboro May Day (First Saturday in May - and historically Sunday as well). Historically, the Saturday day of dance would begin at the now defunct Marlboro College. From there, the original Marlboro Teams would process the exactly two mile route to the Whetstone Inn. To ease the long processional, we would stop at almost every house along the route for tea, lemonade and cookies and cakes. Later in the day, the odd bottle of beer might appear. Arriving late afternoon at the Whetstone Inn in the center of Marlboro Town, Gene and Harry Boardman, innkeepers, met us with a grand tea, with Gene's famous cakes. This year we processed some and danced at four houses then arrived at the Inn. Gene was ready as she has been for 45 years. Note: She might hold the record for longest hosting of a regular Morris event? Certainly likely in North America. She will again host dancers this coming Sunday during the Marlboro Ale.
