1 Corinthians 15:50-58
The passage teaches that because our present “flesh and blood” bodies are perishable and mortal, they cannot inherit God’s eternal Kingdom, so believers must undergo a final, instantaneous transformation at Christ’s return. Paul reveals the mystery that whether Christians are alive or dead when the last trumpet sounds, all will be changed in the blink of an eye—receiving glorified, imperishable bodies perfectly suited for life in God’s unveiled presence. This transformation fulfills the promises of Isaiah and Hosea, turning death’s apparent victory into utter defeat as God “swallows up” death forever through Christ’s triumph. The sermon explains that death exists because of sin, and sin’s power comes through the law—but God has given believers victory through Jesus Christ, who removes sin’s sting and death’s power. In light of this sure and glorious future, Paul exhorts the church to stand firm in the truth of the resurrection, to abound in the work of the Lord, and to know with confidence that none of their labor for Christ is ever in vain, because the final victory is already secured.
