"This concert is a tribute to the life of James Allen ""Joe"" Ford, Jr.. Joe passed away on May 26, 2025. Joe and I have worked together for many years. He was a member of my cooperative group called: Lines Of Reason. He performed with me on at least 9 concerts at Bloomingdale School of Music. He was a dear friend of mine and had a great career. Some of his career highlights are as follows: He earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Central State University in Ohio in 1968. He studied saxophone with Makanda Ken McIntyre, Jackie McLean, Frank Foster and percussion with Joe Chambers. Joe recorded and/or performed with The McCoy Tyner Quartet and Big Band, Jerry Gonzalez and the Fort Apache Band, Kenny Kirkland, Jerry Eastman, Larry Willis, Abdullah Ibrahim, Malachi Thompson, Nova Bossa Nova, John Blake and many more. He played on two Grammy winning albums and three Grammy nominated albums. In 2004, Joe was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, In 2016 he received the Jazz Legacy Award.
