In this video I demonstrate how to drill holes in the bottom of thrifted tea cups to turn them into mini bonsai pots. I end by planting a Colorado blue spruce (Picea pungens) seedling in one of these converted tea cups.
The key to successfully drilling holes in ceramics is to use the right drill bit. The diamond hole saw bit that I use on this video works great; it’s hollow on the inside and has an abrasive edge, ideal for cutting through ceramics. I share a few tips on how best to use this drill bit.
This was a cheap project: I bought all three tea cups for $5. The drill hole saw bit was $10. The spruce seedling was free.
