Kings and Generals animated historical documentary series on Modern Affairs continues with a video in which we summarize the Syrian Civil War. After years of relative quiet, the Syrian Civil War reignited (2024) as Assad’s regime unexpectedly collapsed. But how did it reach this point? In how it all started (2011), the Arab Spring protests spread to Syria, leading to a brutal government crackdown and mass uprisings. The start of the civil war (2012-2013) saw the rise of the Free Syrian Army, but jihadist factions like Al-Nusra and ISIS soon took control of the battlefield. As the war escalated, global powers intervened—Russia joined the war (2015), launching airstrikes to support Assad, while Turkey intervened against Kurdish forces and rebels. The tide turned with the fall of Aleppo (2016), solidifying Assad’s grip on key cities. However, the war dragged on as rebels regrouped. By 2024, with regional powers distracted, a decisive rebel offensive led to the fall of Assad, ending his decades-long rule. Syria now faced an uncertain future. Would a new government bring stability, or was another era of conflict about to begin?
