Comparing the zoom ranges on a micro four thirds camera using different lens. Camera used: Lumix GX9. Lens used in this comparison:
1)Panasonic 12mm – 32mm kit lens
Micro Four Thirds: [24mm – 64mm]
F/3.5–5.6
2) Panasonic 14mm – 140mm lens
Micro Four Thirds: [28mm – 280mm]
F/4.0–5.8
3) HOYA 80mm – 200 lens (manual focus)
Micro Four Thirds Adapter installed: [160mm – 400mm]
F/4
4) ULTIMAXX 420mm – 800mm lens (cheap ebay version)
Micro Four Thirds Adapter installed: [840mm – 1600mm]
F/8.3-16
The filming was done hand held and no tripods were used. This caused a lot of shake when using Ultimaxx which also makes manual focusing very difficult. Please note, this comparison was centered around looking at the capability of the various lense's zoom ranges as oppposed to clarity/sharpness of lens in use. There is an obvious difference in clarity when comparing the 4K footage to the HD footage that was upscaled to 4K (using the telezoom option on the camera to further double the zoom).
The camera settings were as below:
[P] mode (aperture+SS is auto controlled)
Cine V profile
Auto ISO (Max limit 1600)
More accurate tests to follow.
