Trawling through my long list of mp3's I have for 1979, I found this gem, and had no idea I even had it! And I don't recall it or or seeing it on compilations, even though it clearly was on one of their best of albums, at least! No retrospective of the late 1970's would be complete without one (or a whole heap) of tracks from the geniuses Harry 'K.C' Casey or Rick Finch who were the forces behind K.C & The Sunshine Band. Their run of disco hits began in 1975 with ' Get Down Tonight' and continued with 'That's The Way (I like It), 'Shake Shake Shake (Shake Your Booty), 'I'm Your Boogie Man, 'Keep It Comin' Love' , 'Boogie Shoes' and 'its The Same Old Song'. Harsher critics would say that all of their songs sound like the same old song, but there is no denying the ebullient joy and joie de vivre of their recordings - unadulterated exuberance and perfect for the dance floors of the 1970's. By 1980 when disco had burned out, K,C & The Sunshine Band kept recording and having occasional hits - ironically one of their biggest, if not the biggest was the ballad 'Please Don't Go' and Harry Casey also scored a massive hit duet with Teri De Sario on the 1980 love song 'Yes, I'm Ready'. A couple more international hits followed including the 1983 smash 'Give It Up' but the group's heyday was most emphatically those seminal disco years. They, along with Donna Summer, The Bee Gees came to personify that genre, and although the others managed to reinvent themselves into other genres, both before and after, K.C & The Sunshine Band will always be a disco phenomenon. There are worse tags to have as a legacy.
